About Me
My name is Benjamin Westcott, but I typically go by Ben. My pronouns are he/him/his or they/them/theirs. I make a living by writing code, which you can find out more about through my resume, but I like to engage my artistic side out of work in addition to my computing projects.
The main way I express my creativity is through photography. Most of my photos are characterized by the lean toward wider apertures and focal lengths that I use to capture landscapes and still lifes. I particularly like the elegant beauty of nature, the clean-cutting lines and gritty surfaces of human infrastructure, and the contrast between the two. I also enjoy capturing the eerie and ethereal presence of the night. You can see some samples of my work on my photography page.
Searching for a combination of quality time with my partner and new photographic opportunities has brought me to a number of unique places. My favorite so far has been Iceland, but they have all had their own unique and charming character.
I have also found joy in cycling. In the United States this was a mindful experience, but also when used as a method of transport, a form of moderate social and climate activism. In the United Kingdom, especially Cambridge, it has become a necessity, though that is not to say there are no social issues in need of activism here.
During my time at college, I took an interest in sewing through my attendance of a quilting class. Unfortunately that is an activity intensive on physical space. I have not pursued it since for practical reasons.
